Room Clearing

Updated: May 19, 2021

From a home defense perspective, I will ALWAYS be a proponent of retreating into a room and setting up a defensible position whenever possible. Legally speaking you will have a better standing and you will also be in a safer position. However, if you (like myself) have other individuals in your home that you are responsible for protecting then maneuvering through your home may be necessary. After maneuvering to my children and retrieving them I still plan on retreating into a rear bedroom as a secure position.

Below I have included a video that is being presented by Mike Glover from Fieldcraft Survival discussing room clearing. If you are interested in finding out more information about Mike his website is www.fieldcraftsurvival.com.

The video is a great watch and goes into depth about what it means to “clear” a house. Once again, I do not recommend clearing your home. If you think that there is a threat then you should be calling the police and letting them do their job while you wait in a secure position. However, the movements that he shows will be valuable if you need to move to other rooms in your house to defend others. Pay particular attention to how he exits the rooms and how he discusses trying to view as much of a room as possible before entering/exiting. Also, notice how he maneuvers the pistol and maintains control throughout.

Stay safe. Stay practical. Stay educated.
